Vocoder Effect
Jun 2022
This was the final project for GCT535 Sound Technology for Multimedia at KAIST (Spring 2022). We built a classic channel vocoder from band-pass and RMS filters, then added controllable parameters: F0, number of frequency bands, frequency scale, random noising, formant shifting and the balance between modulator and carrier. A compressor and expander clean up the output.
With those controls we recreated the vocoder sound of a few iconic tracks by Daft Punk, Zedd and Stevie Wonder, and tried some stranger carrier sounds along the way.
